MUDr. Ondřej Sobotka is a long-time SmartMEDIX user and in the webinar he shares tips and tricks that make his daily work in the outpatient software easier.

SmartMedix gadgets: tips from a doctor who has been using it for 7 years

Many physicians use only a fraction of the features in outpatient software. Simply because they don't know about them or haven't had the time to set them up. That's why Ondřej Sobotka, MD, a long-time SmartMEDIX user, prepared a webinar. In it, he shared tips and tricks that make his daily work easier.

How well you work can be determined by such "small things" as the resolution of the monitor. MUDr. Sobotka demonstrated the difference when you have SmartMEDIX open on:

  • the screen of an older laptop,
  • a full HD monitor
  • or a 4K monitor.

The main difference is how much information can fit on the screen. While on an older laptop you can barely see two paragraphs of the decurse, with full HD you can see significantly more. "I personally use a 4K monitor. I can see the maximum amount of information and I don't have to scroll anywhere," says Dr Sobotka.

Setting the right bar

The right bar in SmartMEDIX is where you see everything important about the patient. "I recommend starting by setting up this bar. This is because you can choose what information is relevant to you and you want to see it at a glance."

For example, Dr. Sobotka's bar displays the following information:

  • Patient identification information,
  • smoker/non-smoker,
  • allergies,
  • health risks,
  • vaccinations,
  • permanent medication.

"I can also see if there's an active sick leave - I can click right through and end it."

‍Setting thetop bar

Similarly, you can set up the top bar and "pull" frequently used features onto it . For example, Dr. Sobotka has Print, Scanner, and Emmy functions in this bar. When he is in SmartMEDIX and wants to book a patienthe needs to quickly see if the patient is booked, he simply clicks on the Emmy function. This takes him to the Emmy software, which he uses to automate routine communication between the practice and patients.

If you find the constantly ringing phone distracting and would like to streamline patient appointment making, read more about Emmy.

"I also have an icon on my dashboard for Daily Summary. This makes it easy for me to review each day what we did that day. I also pulled in direct entry to outpatient documents," said the presenter.

He went on to show how he uses the History module and the extent to which he structures patient data in it.

Use of phrases

He then focused on the Phrases function. "I noticed that a lot of colleagues don't use them much. Whereas I'm such a phrase freak. I find it practical to use texts that are already prepared. It's not just the text, I have the codes linked to it .When I use a specific phrase, not only does it save a lot of time, but it also shows the codes to the insurance company," said Dr. Sobotka.

‍Whatelse you can learn from the webinar

M.D. Sobotka discussed a number of other topics, including:

  • bundled codes,
  • creating PDF attachments,
  • linking examination and code,
  • request templates
  • and stamped printing.

He also mentioned features that he felt were not very useful and not worth pursuing.

If you missed the webinar, we'd be happy to send you a free recording. Just email podpora@sestraemmy.cz to request it. In the video, you'll see demos directly from SmartMEDIX - if you're interested in some of the gadgets, you'll know where to look for them.
